Lane Press Partners with "SendMyAd" Ad Portal
One of the ways publishers are streamlining workflows is by using online ad portals to manage the submission, preflighting, and approval process for their advertisements. By using online ad portals, publishers are able to reduce the time and resources required to check ads and go back and forth with advertisers on fixes.
At Lane Press, we have surveyed the field of online ad portals and have partnered with a provider, SendMyAd (http://www.sendmyad.com/), who is an excellent fit for our varied customer base. We have negotiated discounted pricing on behalf of our customers, and we can interface with this technology to make your ad workflow as smooth as possible.
How SendMyAd Works
Built on the software-as-service (SAS) model, SendMyAd is a completely secure web-based solution. There is no software to download or to install and no periodic application updates to run.
Each publisher has its own secure portal along with rights-management tools to control who has access to their portal and who can perform specific functions, such as submitting or approving materials. Inside the portal, publishers set up each of their publications with complete specifications, including Lane Press-specific preflight standards.
Uploading ads to SendMyAd is simple. Users, including advertisers, log onto the publisher's secure site and select the right publication to work with. Then, they select the size and color specification for their ad, and upload the file.
At the heart of SendMyAd is preflight technology that is able to identify issues that would cause errors to show up in print. During preflighting, SendMyAd compares the ad's original digital information (such as size, resolution, font information, and color space) to the publication's ad specifications stored in the SendMyAd database. The system quickly flags any issues detected that conflict with the specifications and sends email alerts to the appropriate users. A link takes the user directly to the ad, where he/she can view the softproof in high resolution, read detailed information on problems detected, and upload a revised ad.
With the SendMyAd optional SWOP softproofing option, both publishers and advertisers can use SendMyAd to collaborate on ad creation or revision. Users can simultaneously view high-resolution files, zoom, add or edit annotations, take color measurements, view both composite and separated files, highlight areas with a freehand drawing tool, and chat interactively. If your monitor is color-calibrated in a reliable color environment, it can display accurate colors matching your publication's CMYK color space. Every action performed is logged and time-stamped by user name, allowing future referencing, archiving, and tracking of the ad.
When the final ad is approved, it is automatically saved as a PDF/X1a with all insertion metadata included as XMP, and automatic notifications are sent to alert the ad handlers that materials are ready for insertion. The system enables you to easily store and manage ad for pickups in future issues.

About SendMyAd, LLC. SendMyAd, LLC, wholly owned business unit of Blanchard Systems, provides a subscription service, available as the first end-to-end solution for publishers, letting them create a web-based environment where advertisers and agencies can collaborate online to automate the workflow of receiving, approving and delivering ad materials. The easy to use system provides five major, functional services: Ad Preflight, where uploaded ads are preflighted to the publication’s specifications; Softproofing, where advertisers can preview, annotate and manage print-ready ads; Trimming of ads over the Web, an interactive tool allowing an advertiser to change the trim size of an ad to fit a publication’s specification size; Insertion Orders, creating AdsML-compliant job tickets, allowing one to tracking an ads from the moment it enters the SendMyAd workflow until it is printed; and Digital Receipt, attaching all the insertion order information as a multi-page PDF file. A preview showing the positioning of the ad verifies how the ad will print on the magazine page. The SendMyAd system is supported by a major co-location web backbone. To preserve data, the system is fully redundant, with offsite storage.
